2. History of Kim Lien Pagoda

Kim Lien Pagoda has the old foundation of Tu Hoa Palace, built by King Ly Than Tong for Princess Tu Hoa

In the Tran Dynasty, the pagoda was named Dong Long and the Le Dynasty was named: “Dai Bi”.

1771: The temple was restored on a large scale. This is also the year when the name changed to Kim Lien Pagoda.

In 1792 and 1973: The temple was restored and completed, under King Quang Trung.

Starting point is Sword Lake (Hoan Kiem).

You go south, enter Le Thai To, Hang Trong (Through Hanoi, Oppo Los Angeles on the left, 300m).

At Duc Hoang Co., Ltd., you turn left onto Hang Khay (Through French Banh Mi Que BMQ, right, 170m).

You follow Dinh Tien Hoang route, to Tran Nguyen Han and Hang Tre, then to Tran Nhat Duat street (Ly Thai To ward), about 1.4km.

You find your way to Ng.1 Au Co Street, Tu Hoa Ward, Tay Ho District (Forced to go through Yen Phu and Nghi Ham, total length is 3.4km).

At Dien Kim Trang Co., Ltd., turn left (33m).

The point to visit is Kim Lien pagoda.

Note: If you don’t want to have trouble traveling, it’s a good idea to check everything before setting off and avoid traveling during peak hours.

4. Architecture of Hanoi Kim Lien Pagoda

Kim Lien Pagoda is like inheriting the ancient soul, the indomitable blood of Hanoi’s inner city through the dynasties up to now, bringing with it the pride, immortality, including history and architecture.

However, the temple brings warmth, idyllic, everyday life behind the external aura.

  • Tam Quan Gate Kim Lien Pagoda

Tam Quan Gate is wooden structure with reddish brown color. Seen from the front, the gate is the connection of four round, spaced pillars (four straight points).

The two middle pillars are higher and bigger than the two side pillars, used to raise the roof at the main gate, the two side gates are lower.

The roof of the gate is tiled with layers, four curved corners.

On the doors, pillars, roofs, etc., there are embossed carvings on the wooden surface that are very sophisticated, flexible and lively.

  • The campus in the middle of Kim Lien Pagoda

Behind Tam Quan gate is a courtyard with a rockery. The rockery has a statue of Guanyin, shaped like a mountain and water, and even green trees in the rockery, evoking a natural and tranquil scene.

The whole yard is paved with red bricks. From here, it leads to three pagodas in the shape of the letter “Triangle” arranged parallel to each other, creating a symmetrical shape.

Inside the pagoda, is the parallel architecture of three pagodas including the Lower, Middle, and Upper pagodas.

In which, the Lower Pagoda and the Middle Pagoda both face the West, the Upper Pagoda faces the East.

All three pagodas are connected by a bare brick wall, with a round window with the heart of the Buddha.

The roof of the pagoda is roofed in an overlapping style (layers of tiles overlapping matches). Each compartment has 8 roofs, equivalent to 8 curved dragon-shaped saber ships.

The foot of the column has a stylized lotus shape that is elaborately and meticulously carved.

The architecture of the temple is considered a pagoda with ancient architecture and is listed in the table of historical relics of Vietnam (1989, recognized).
