Biodiversity on Stork Island

In the stork garden, there are still many species of birds, cauldrons, hoes… still proliferating. The people of the Russian village also do not know exactly when the birds and storks first came to this good land to make their nests. According to the elderly in the village, every year, all kinds of storks and cauldrons appear most from September to the Lunar New Year, because this is the time when seabirds migrate to winter. From March to July next year is the breeding season of storks.

Against the background of the blue sky, the white storks hovering and then flying around fighting for a place to park with their cries tearing the quiet space.

Busy time on Stork Island

The time when storks and cauldrons are most crowded is at dusk. Storks and cauldrons here never stay together, early in the morning, when the storks go to eat, the cauldrons fly back to sleep. For many generations, they still take turns residing here like that.

At this bird garden, there are not only storks, cauldrons but also a home for many species of birds such as mallards, le le, hoes, morning glory, wild pigeons and especially 5 pelicans live.

The care and protection of the stork garden here also face many difficulties. Over time, “stork island” was almost “erased” for many reasons. For a while, storks were hunted and caught bluffly, so a lot of storks left.

The people involved in protecting the stork garden are only responsible because the wages are not worth much. In 1992, the bamboo thorn garden in the lake was degraded, and most of the stork droppings covered the leaves, so most of them died. The local government mobilized militiamen to replant many bamboo stumps.

To protect the storks, the  Tien Nong commune government  assigned the commune police to manage, watch, and strictly prohibit people from hunting birds and storks in any form. In addition, the People  ‘s Committee of Trieu Son district  often pays attention and directs  Tien Nong commune  to invest in and create a living environment for storks so that stork island is really a peaceful place for birds to breed and flourish, contributing to keeping storks alive. preserve and protect culture for future generations.

Accordingly, the Van bridge spanning the Hoang River will be opened, connecting Tien Nong commune with the southern communes of  Dong Son district . In the future, “Stork Island” will become a tourist destination in the journey  Sam Son – Tien Nong Stork Island – Phu Na – Am Tien.
