2. History of Hai Van Pass 

Hai Van Pass was formerly known as Ai Van Pass because there is a gate located on the top of the pass. After that, the pass was renamed to May Pass because it was hidden in the clouds. According to recorded history, before 1306, Hai Van pass belonged to two continents O and Ri of the Champa Kingdom.

Later, when he proposed to Princess Huyen Tran, King Che Man gave these two continents as a wedding gift. In 1402, after the Ho Dynasty invaded Champa, the Hai Van Pass from the boundary of the two countries became the land of Dai Ngu.

During the French colonial period, although the Hai Van pass was built, it was still very narrow, dangerous, prone to wild animals and robbers, so the French built a railway running the whole length of the Hai Van pass.

Today, the Hai Van pass tunnel has been completed to ensure convenience for North-South circulation. Although there is Hai Van pass tunnel, many tourists still want to come here to visit and conquer the most dangerous road in Vietnam.

3. Hai Van Pass is the most dangerous, beautiful and enchanting road in Vietnam

The road to conquer Hai Van pass is not easy with winding and winding roads along the mountainside. Hai Van Pass stands out among the thousands, like a silk strip crossing the foot of the clouds, like a fairyland.

Standing from Hai Van pass, visitors can zoom out into the distance with one side of the majestic mountains, the other side is the immense sea, all blending together, creating a magnificent natural picture.

4. Hai Van Pass Peak – a scenic viewing point with “1-0-2”

The closer you get to the top of Hai Van pass, the more you will be overwhelmed by the beautiful natural scenery here. The sound of the mountains and forests, the chill of the wind, of the mist, will make you feel interesting and unforgettable.

5. Places to visit, check in Hai Van pass cannot be ignored

5.1. Hai Van Pass – a link between the two heritage regions 

Hai Van Pass or Hai Van Quan is likened to “the most majestic scenery in the world”, located on the top of Hai Van Pass. Overcoming the dangerous roads to get to this place, you will be able to capture the whole panorama  of Hai Van pass  in sight. 

This gate was built during the Tran Dynasty, about 6m high, with a very large arch, above it with an observatory. The gate was built very firmly, through rain and wind, ups and downs, to this day, Hai Van Quan is still standing. Traveling to Hue Da Nang , you definitely cannot ignore this place.

5.2. Van village is nestled at the foot of the pass

Van village is a small village located separately from Da Nang, right at the foot of Hai Van pass. You can bring food and camping gear to picnic with friends. Van village has many places for you to hold a barbecue or camp overnight.

5.3. Bei Hai Van Station

From Hai Van Quan, you move another 4km to the ranger station and then follow the concrete road for another 1km to reach Bac Hai Van station. This place is enough for you to enjoy taking pictures “virtual life”. However, there will still be trains running on the tracks, so when taking photos, remember to look carefully.

5.4. Don Ca Arch Bridge

Like Bac Hai Van station, Vom Don Ca bridge is famous for its wild and fancy beauty. After moving to Bac Hai Van station, you go a little further to reach the Don Ca arch bridge. The path is quite steep and small, you should pay attention.

7. Dining experience at Hai Van Pass

Traveling to Hai Van Pass, you can enjoy  Hue specialties  and   famous Da Nang specialties that are loved by many tourists. The two most appreciated dishes you should try are Nam O fish salad and pork wet cake.

7.1. Nam O fish salad

Nam O fish salad  is made from fresh herring, served with raw vegetables, dipped with sauce. This is an extremely delicious dish, not to be missed.

7.2. Hue wet cake

8. Oyster sauce – Hai Van pass specialty bought as a gift

Scallop sauce is one of the very famous specialties in Hue that you should bring back as a gift when you come to Hai Van pass. Fish sauce is made from fresh scallops, marinated with spices such as ginger, galangal, green beans… The fish sauce has a very long shelf life, so you can buy a little more to give as a gift or eat it gradually.

Conquering  Hai Van Pass  brings visitors too many indescribable emotions, thrills, worries, and finally, joy and excitement.
