Visit Pu Ta Leng Peak

Ho Thau Wards, Tam Duong District, Lai Chau Province, VietNam

After the Lunar New Year holiday, not having to go to work, my friends and I decided to go to the top of Pu Ta Leng after many appointments and then postponed. The group divided the work, one contacted the porter, the one in charge of going to the supermarket to prepare food for the trip. Everyone is very excited for the early spring trekking.
Pu Ta Leng peak is 3,089 m high in Hoang Lien Son range, Ta Leng commune, Lai Chau province. With such a height, Pu Ta Leng peak is the second highest mountain, dubbed the “second roof” of Indochina, behind Fanxipang peak 3,143 m high. Conquering Pu Ta Leng peak is the dream of travel lovers.

First day in

We travel by motorbike and the route is outlined as follows: Hanoi – Phu Tho – Yen Bai – Sapa town – Tam Duong town – Ho Thau. When we arrive at Ho Thau, there will be a porter to pick us up, we will stay at people’s houses in the village overnight, the next morning we begin our journey to conquer “the altitude of 3,049 m”.
Early the next day, we all got up very early, partly because of excitement and partly because we wanted to catch the sunrise in the village. The sun began to rise from the top of the mountain, red as hot coals in a furnace, the sky was high and clear, the clouds drifted, signaling a beautiful day of weather, supporting the whole group on the first day of climbing. .

Dawn in the village.

“Conference” early morning.

Before starting to go, the two of them made a final check of their belongings, energy drinks, candy and cookies to support the journey to avoid exhaustion in the middle of the road. When you hire a porter, the porter in addition to showing the way, helping with the delivery, will be in charge of cooking rice. For those of you who are climbing Pu Ta Leng for the first time, a porter is a very necessary person. They are local people, know the road map well, have good health and have a survival instinct in the forest.

My sister was very excited about the trip.

Magnificent picture of nature

The first day of our trekking includes: Ho Thau – 2,400 m landmark. Climbing time is from 8-10 hours depending on the fitness of everyone in the group. Along the way, we passed one surprise after another, every time we reached a new height, the image of nature was transformed.

The mountains overlap, the message message.

The primeval forests, the wild vines, the nameless wild flowers, all combine to create a rich picture of nature. The mountains coincide, connecting from one range to another like undulating waves in the middle of the sea. From an altitude of 1,500 m, you can see the top of Phu Xi Lung and Bach Moc Luong Tu in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range.

Moment of rest

On the way, to avoid being too exhausted, we stopped to eat simple dishes, not mountain or sea, but when eating in the middle of the mountain, among friends, it was so delicious. Everyone ate, then laughed and talked happily, talking about the amazing discoveries they had just experienced.

The relay meal along the way was extremely fun.

Sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves.

“Thousand-star hotel”

When we reached the 2,400 m mark, we camped to rest, although we were tired, everyone was very excited, still howling to take pictures. It is starting to get dark, we will spend the night at the camp, tomorrow morning continue to conquer.
If you are familiar with 5-star hotels, please experience “thousand-star hotels”. Lying in the middle of the vast and vast nature, facing the sky, the black sky glittering with thousands of stars, the “nature’s symphony orchestra” echoes in the ears, nothing more poetic.

In the middle of nature

Early the next day, we made the way to the top: landmark 2. 400m – Pu Ta Leng peak – back to landmark 2,400 m – landmark 1,800 m (cardamom forest – towards Ta Lang village). When going trekking, the feeling is always taking each other to hide, waking up in a far place in the morning. The fresh air of the mountains makes the human spirit more comfortable than ever.
From the height of 2,400 m up to the top of the mountain, we crossed small streams, bamboo forest, sunlight penetrated, sea of clouds floating like the scales in the classic movie Journey to the West.

Oh, hold on, my dear.

The higher you go, the thinner the air, the breathing becomes more labored, your legs are tired, you don’t want to walk anymore. This time, it is not the legs that walk anymore, but the spirit of victory that urges the more resilient legs. The wildflowers on the roadside were in full bloom, and the wind blew through their hair as if supporting the “warriors” to continue confidently.

The destination is near.

At an altitude of 3049 atop Pu Ta Leng

Finally, an iron pillar with a triangular sign appeared – Pu Ta Leng 3,049 m. The feeling of the whole group at that time burst into joy, there is no ink to describe it. The mental fatigue, the scratches when crossing the forest and wading in the stream no longer mean anything. In everyone’s heart, there is a little pride in setting foot on the “second roof” of Indochina.

We have already reached the top of Pu Ta Leng!

From the top of the mountain, you can see the whole surrounding scenery, the mountain slopes are covered with green, the forest flowers are blooming, the sky is blue like the sea, so proud of our country to be endowed with such beautiful scenery.
We rested, took pictures for about 2 hours on the top of the mountain, then moved to the campsite 2,400 m and then down to the point of camping in the Cardamom forest – 1,800 m landmark (towards Ta Lang village) and rested overnight. 2.
Route day 3: Landmark 1,800 m – Ta Lang village – TP. Lai Chau

Team members.

From Ta Lang village, we rested and rented a motorbike taxi back to the city. Lai Chau. The feeling of joy when conquering a high mountain peak is still intact in me. It feels like a new shining milestone of youth and youth. Thank you to my friends for accompanying me on this trek to the top of Pu Ta Leng. Let’s invite your teammates to do an early spring trekking!
