Da River, also known as Bo River or Da Giang, is the largest tributary of the Red River. The river originates in Yunnan province, China, flows in the northwest – southeast direction, and then merges with the Red River in Phu Tho. Song Da is 910 km long (983 km) and has a basin area of 52,900 km². In China, the river is called Ly Tien Giang, formed by two tributaries of Ba Bien Giang and A Mac Giang. The section in Vietnam is 527 km long (with documents stating 543 km). The starting point is the Vietnam-China border in Muong Te district (Lai Chau). The Da River flows into Vietnam at landmark 17, where the Nam Nap stream flows into the Da River. Milestone 17 includes 3 landmarks: 17(1), 17(2) of Vietnam and 17(3) of China. The intersection of these three landmarks at the mouth of Nam Nap stream is where the Da River flows into Vietnam.
