2. Legend of Co Tien Mountain.

Legend has it that there was a fairy who went to the lower world to travel to spring, when she came here, she saw a strange scene, so her heart was heavy to stay, so this mountain is called Co Tien mountain.

Another legend tells the story of this mountain and explains the name Bac Ha. This name originates from a market that the ethnic people call Pac Kha, this market is called Bac Ha by the Vietnamese, ie the market that exists today and the name Bac Ha is also used to name the district and town where it is located. this.

According to the story, one day, a father and son went out to play at Pac Kha market, suddenly just arrived, the daughter became seriously ill. The father tried all means but could not save his son. Sadness and despair, he had to cover his son’s body with leaves, and then went down to the village to ask for incense to light his son’s soul from the cold. Sympathizing with this situation, the villagers contributed money, together with the old man, brought the girl’s body to the mountain for a funeral.

When the incense was still burning unfinished, the girl suddenly woke up and spoke as clearly as someone who had just experienced a deep sleep. She recounted that she had met Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. The Lady Buddha told her to take care of her worship in the mortal world and then led her back to earth.

When everyone heard this, they were very surprised, and looked up to the sky, at that time they saw a cloud of iridescent colors gathered right above their heads. They consider this to be a good omen and to thank Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara for saving his daughter’s life, the father and the villagers hired a man to cut holes in the cliffs, two feet high above the ground, and then sculpt Quan statues. The Bodhisattva to worship.

Up to now, every year on September 19, the villagers bring red cloth and rice here to pray for Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara’s blessing, bring good omens and erase bad omens for the villagers.
