With a history of nearly two hundred years, the whole commune has a total area of 82 hectares of terraced rice fields, most concentrated in the villages: Khau Trang 30 hectares, Pac Khoang 10 hectares, Na Mu more than 10 hectares, the land is distributed. along the inter-commune road, around the center of Hong Thai commune. The fields are sometimes craggy halfway up the mountain, close to the road, sometimes connecting from the top of the mountain down to the stream with a height of 100m. The terraced fields here are considered as one of the most beautiful terraced landscapes in the district, considered a “great creative work” of the Dao Tien people. Standing from above, you can observe the whole view of the immense terraced fields, stretching as far as the eye can see. Layered, layered fields spread across the hills, from foot to top,

One thing that is easy to feel when coming here is that it seems that with their hard work and diligence, the Dao Tien people can turn all kinds of mountainous terrain, taking advantage of all areas of land to make terraced fields. There are places where almost an entire hill is a small terraced field of a few square meters, surrounded by rocks, where it is necessary to use a hoe, harrow and then direct water to transplant. In the low hills, the slope is not large and there are many ground, the width of the field is wider, up to tens of meters in some places, but most of the fields of the Dao Tien people are usually narrow, just enough for one or two harrows. . Depending on the terrain, the short length of each field is also different, there are plots only 3-4m long, there are plots winding through many bends, connecting from one hillside to another. The height of each field is also not fixed, Normally, the distance between the upper field and the lower field is from 1m – 2m. The field bank has a width of about 20cm – 30cm, usually it is embanked at the edge of the field, but in fields with steep slope and unstable structure or landslide, people have to take a hoe to dig deep into the foot of the field. Use stone embankment to cut from the bottom of the field to high close to the edge of the field, then use soil to cover the stone embankment to make the field edge.

The terraced fields are usually very narrow, but each hill usually has about 10 to 20 fields, in some places up to more than 30 steps, the average height of each plot is from 1.5m – 2m. Due to the characteristics of high mountains, the fields are surrounded by forests, at the junction between the two hills, there are often flowing streams, this is the main source of water for the crops of the people. .

For generations, the Dao people in Hong Thai commune, with skillful and industrious hands, have carved between heaven and earth masterpieces of terraced fields like interesting and charming natural paintings. This is a destination where visitors can fully feel the charming natural scenery as well as the life of the Dao Tien ethnic group.
