Phia Oac – Phia Den National Park is a special-use forest located in 4 communes: Thanh Cong, Quang Thanh, Phan Thanh, Hung Dao and Tinh Tuc town (Nguyen Binh district), 73km west of Cao Bang city. along provincial road 212 and national highway 34. Established on January 11, 2018 on the basis of the entire area of the former nature reserve, the national park has a natural area of 10,245.6 ha, of which 4,035.5 ha is a strictly protected area. Phja Oac and Phja Den are the names of two mountain peaks, in which the peak of Phja Oac has an altitude of 1,931m, which is likened to the “roof” of the west of Cao Bang province; Phja Den has an altitude of 1,391m.
The forest here belongs to the ecosystem of “dwarf forest, a typical forest type of temperate climate in the North of our country”. Regarding plants, there are 1,287 species belonging to 786 genera in 202 families of 6 plant branches; Regarding animals, there are 496 species of vertebrates, in addition there are thousands of species of invertebrates, insects… In which there are 352 species of plants, 58 species of rare animals listed in the Red Book of Vietnam. This is an extremely rare resource, these valuable plant and animal genetic resources need to be strictly protected. In terms of geology, Phja Oac – Phja Den National Park has limestone mountains with underground rivers; valleys, basins and slopes interspersed between low and medium mountain ranges. Nature has endowed Phja Oac – Phja Den with fresh air and cool climate. Distributed around the garden are villages, streams, hillsides, terraced fields planted by ethnic minorities in rice, maize, cassava, tea… creating extremely beautiful natural pictures. .
