If Tu Le and Mu Cang Chai are famous, the name Muong Lo (Nghia Lo) seems to be very few people know. On the highway 32 axis to Mu Cang Chai, you will have to go through Nghia Lo town, this is the socio-economic center of the whole Muong Lo region today.
Located about 80 km west of Yen Bai city, Muong Lo valley is likened to a giant basin that covers the entire Nghia Lo town and a few communes of Van Chan district.
As the land of rice, Muong Lo has long been handed down in praise of the four largest granaries in the Northwest: “Nhat Thanh, Nhi Lo, Tam Than, Tu Tac”. In which, Muong Thanh (Dien Bien) is the largest, Muong Lo is the second largest rice field in the Northwest, then comes Muong Than (Lai Chau) and finally Muong Tac (Son La).
Famous for its cultural diversity, Muong Lo is also the place where 12 ethnic groups live together: Thai, Kinh, Mong, Muong…in which Thai people make up the majority.
The giant Muong Lo basin is completely surrounded by the majestic Hoang Lien Son range, which originates from the Lao Cai – Lai Chau border and extends to the end of the western land of Yen Bai.

The golden fields stretch to the foot of the towering mountains of the Hoang Lien Son range.
There are also many corners of Van Chan area at the foot of Phinh Ho commune, where rice is still green.
The road leading to the center of Nghia Lo town is located in the middle of a giant field, seen from above with alternating green and yellow patches.
Every year, from mid-September to early October is the best time to visit Muong Lo, coinciding with the time of the Paragliding Festival “Flying over the golden season” in Mu Cang Chai. ​
The distance you have to travel is about 200 km on Highway 32 according to the itinerary: Hanoi – Son Tay – Trung Ha bridge – Thanh Son – Tan Son – Thu Cuc – Van Chan – Nghia Lo.
