Ranked seventh in the top 10 highest mountains in Vietnam, Ta Chi Nhu is considered a mountain peak with quite majestic scenery and diverse forest ecosystems, a very popular discovery point for climbers as well as enthusiasts. conquer favorites.
We came to Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province when the clock was past 12 o’clock at night, with a distance of nearly 250km from Hanoi. Tram Tau upland district was formerly famous for its primeval pomu forests, vast terraced rice valleys or hot mineral springs. Over the years, the district center has sprung up many community guesthouses, homestays of Thai people to serve tourists, from overnight accommodation in the form of collective stilts, to full catering and culinary services. . We stayed here for one night, so that the next morning, according to a prior appointment, we met the Mong people (carts of food, equipment to support tourists) at the district market center, then came together. Mine, starting point is also the foot of Ta Chi Nhu mountain to conquer.
Dubbed the roof of Yen Bai province, Ta Chi Nhu is located in Xa Ho commune, Tram Tau district, a part of the Pu Luong massif, in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range. The Hoang Lien Son mountain range in our country runs up to 180km in the northwest – southeast direction, between the two provinces of Lao Cai and Lai Chau, extending to the west of Yen Bai province. The highest mountains are all concentrated here. Ta Chi Nhu reaches an altitude of exactly 2,979m above sea level, ranking seventh in elevation in Vietnam.
On time, we met the Hmong porter brothers at the district market center at 8 o’clock, got acquainted and went to the market together to prepare lunch, dinner, and breakfast the next day on the campsite 2,400m. Porter in Ta Chi Nhu is both a guide and a supporter of the group, carrying food, backpacks, cooking… as well as asking permission from the government for climbing, booking overnight accommodation on shacks 2,400 m. They are Hmong people who are proficient, healthy, hard-working and have been doing this quiet work for tour groups and mountain climbing for many years.
Basically, Ta Chi Nhu is a mountain that is not too difficult. You just need to work hard to exercise or have a good physical foundation to easily conquer it. The total distance for the two-day and one-night journey here is only 18km both going and returning. The climbing terrain does not have many shortcuts, is dense or crossroads, there are not many gorges, steep cliffs, it is quite safe for everyone because it is mainly a trail. But this trail is quite steep, continuous, it will be a nightmare if climbing on a rainy day, this steep dirt road will turn into mud. Therefore, you need to carefully monitor the weather forecast for your trip.
The road is simple, but the landscape of Ta Chi Nhu is very beautiful, constantly changing with altitude. When going in the primeval old forest, when going through streams, going through low canopy forests, grasslands, bamboo forests… to a barren hill near the top. And divided into three stages: stage 1 at an altitude of about 1,200m at Mo Chi at the foot of the mountain, this starting point is still managed by a lead mining company, usually the groups will stop at a stream in the forest to eat. lunch. Stage 2 starts from the stream up to the 2,400m high overnight shack, this is everyone’s place to rest before entering stage 3 the next morning, from the shack to the top.
After about 3-4 hours of continuous climbing while walking and resting, we also reached the camp point 2,400m above sea level. Previously, here was just an empty lot, climbing groups coming here had to bring their own tents to camp, and domestic water had to be carried up from the mountain. Later, noticing that the number of tourists climbing Ta Chi Nhu mountain was increasing day by day, the Mong porter brothers agreed to build a wooden tent with a capacity of 100 people, bring spring water for daily activities, and have enough blankets. There is a kitchen for cooking, a toilet, for 100,000 VND/person/night.
From the shack to the top about 2.5km, this is also the most beautiful distance of the whole journey, a place to watch the beautiful sunset and sunrise because of the open space with the view of the “dinosaur” spines, the hero valley. the greatness of the Pu Luong massif.
It would be remiss not to mention the gentle, industrious porter brothers, unafraid of hardship, always responsible and enthusiastic, who helped us complete this trip to the fullest.
