Van war zone is a fairly large area, located in the south of Tran Yen district and southeast of Van Chan district. Before 1945, Van War Zone was located in the area of ​​3 cantons: Luong Ca, Gioi Phien (belonging to Tran Yen) and Dai Lich belonging to Van Chan, with a distance of 23km from North to South and 18km from East to West. The history of the war zone has undergone many changes over time, places and boundaries have changed. Previously, this land belonged to Van Chan district, now belongs to Tran Yen district. In 1945, today’s Van Hoi commune was called Minh Phu commune; On January 6, 1946, the inter-commune Minh Phu – Dong Phu – Phu Thinh – Phu Luong called Viet Cuong commune; On 23/3/1949, Viet Cuong commune was divided into 2 communes Hong Duc and Viet Cuong; On January 1, 1951, three communes Viet Cuong, Hong Duc and Minh Quan were merged into Viet Hong commune; On January 4, 1954, Viet Cuong commune was separated into 3 communes: Viet Hong, Viet Cuong and Minh Quan; June 6, 1988, according to Decision No. 101/QD-HDBT of the Council of Ministers dividing Viet Hong commune into 2 communes: Viet Hong commune and Van Hoi commune. The boundary of the war zone may change, but the center of the war zone is Minh Phu commune (total Luong Ca, Tran Yen district) which now includes 3 communes Viet Hong, Viet Cuong, Van Hoi, of which are typical 2 points of Viet Hong village. is the command center of the War Zone) and Dong Yeng Village (in Van Hoi commune) is the military training center of the revolutionary base of the War Zone.

The relic of the Van revolutionary war zone is located in the South of Yen Bai province, 16 km from Yen Bai city (the crow flies), 30 km (the paved provincial road). Visitors can visit and study Monuments, ecology, caves … by means of cars, motorbikes according to the following 3 convenient roads:

– From Yen Bai City to;

– From Van Chan turn to My;

– From Hien Luong (Song Thao – Phu Tho) go up.

The location of Dong Yeng village (Van Hoi), is located 5 km to the east of Van village and is reached by car or motorbike by following 3 roads:

– From Yen Bai city about 30 km;

– About 5 km from Van village;

 – From Hien Luong (Phu Tho) up about 4 km is to the relic site.

The War Zone-style revolutionary base has a fairly large scale, in which the two most important areas are Van village and Dong Yeng village.

Van village is a valley surrounded by  mountains with an average height of 200 to 500m, the valley is 4.5 km long, the road is difficult to travel, today is structured by the foot of terraced fields. , after the revolution discovered by the people (with a low difference) now called Dong Tro, Dong Cay Gao… with a rhyme running along the village. This is also the confluence of 3 small nibs to create the rhyme nib. The terrain is treacherous, in the past there was only one way to the village and had to go through the pass. Being both discreet and close to political centers (the provincial capitals of two provinces, Yen Bai – Phu Tho), this area was chosen by the Northern Party Committee as a favorable place for the establishment of a revolutionary base, which gradually developed to form a model. War zone pattern.

Dong Yen Village :  About 4 km east of Van village and more than 3 km west of Hien Luong, is a village located between Van and Hien Luong. With a favorable location, raspberry-shaped hills, Dong Yeng was chosen by Au Co guerrillas as a military training center to develop armed forces to prepare for the general uprising to seize revolutionary power in Yen Bai. and Phu Tho.

Formation of Historic Monuments (War zone type):

From a careful assessment of the situation, knowing the enemy, ourselves and the people of this land, which has a tradition of fighting against oppression, exploitation and foreign invasion of ethnic groups, the selection of the revolutionary seeding ground here will early germination. In the past, this land only had 3 ethnic groups: Kinh, Tay and Dao, with a tradition of solidarity and attachment. Since the arrival of the Revolutionary Sun, many revolutionary foundations have been built, and the people’s spirit is ready to support and follow the revolution.

After assessing the situation of the geographical location and the spirit of the people. Under the direct leadership of the Northern Party Committee, when establishing the Au Co guerrilla team, he moved to Dong Yeng and then to Van village. Using Van as the command center, Dong Yen as the military training center for the formation of the War Zone.

Leaders of the war zone include comrades: Tran Quang Binh, Binh Phuong, Ngo Minh Loan, Nguyen Phuc, Tran Duc Sac (ie Prof. Van Tan). The war zone was also a safe place to welcome the faithful revolutionary comrades who escaped from Son La prison, and a number of activities in the lowlands were revealed to continue participating in revolutionary activities.

A great event took place here, on June 30, 1945, the Inter-provincial Committee of Phu – Yen (Phu Tho – Yen Bai) was established – an important historical milestone marking the formation of the War Zone. led by Comrade Ngo Minh Loan as the revolutionary leader of the two provinces of Yen Bai and Phu Tho. From here, it has expanded to Lao Cai and a part of Son La. Here, the Party forces operate in an organized and disciplined manner to strengthen and develop strongly, so in turn, organizations such as: National Salvation of the Viet Minh; The Interim Revolutionary Committee of the War Zone was established. The thriving guerrilla team defeated the disbanded enemy government and defeated the attacks of puppet and Japanese troops. At the same time, he was enlightened by the chief deputy generals who followed and supported the revolution, firmly protecting the safety of the revolutionary base of the War Zone. When the opportunity came, from the revolutionary military zone, there were 3 directions: Phu Tho, Yen Bai and Nghia Lo, in order to destroy the Japanese granaries and distribute them to the hungry people, one neck and two eyes. The people more and more believed in following the revolution to overthrow the enemy government, liberate and establish a revolutionary government in the two provinces of Phu Tho, Yen Bai and Phu Yen district (Son La), contributing positively to the great victory of the enemy. nation in the unique general uprising of the revolutionary history of August 1945.
