This temple began to be built in the 15th century with the name Huong Lam Tu, located in Mai Pha commune. Until 1796, the temple was moved to its present location. (About 200m from the old location). Later, the pagoda was also renamed Dien Khanh Tu.
From 1846, from the reign of King Thieu Tri, this pagoda was renamed Tuan Khanh Tu. Until a while later, continue to maintain the old name of Dien Khanh Tu. To the locals here, they often call it Lang Son Citadel Pagoda because this temple is located right next to the ancient citadel.

The road to Lang Son Citadel is considered to be quite convenient, visitors can travel with many different means of transport such as motorbikes, passenger cars, etc.
The route to Lang Son Citadel from Hanoi is as follows:
- From Hanoi city center, visitors find their way to Chuong Duong bridge, then turn onto Highway 5 and continue through the overpass. When coming to National Highway 1A, visitors follow the Hanoi – Bac Giang highway. Then continue to follow National Highway 1A, Highway 37 to move to Hung Vuong Street in Yen Trach. When going through this Hung Vuong road, visitors will come to the foot of Ky Cung bridge – this is also the location of Lang Son citadel pagoda.
