During the anti-American era, Quang Binh was considered as the direct rear of the big battlefield in the South. On the Truong Son route day and night, troops went to battle with the will to defeat the enemy to liberate the South. In order to defeat the enemy with countless modern and advanced weapons, Truong Son High Command determined that, in addition to transporting troops, communication on the whole line must always be ensured.

In 1967, A69 communication station was established, choosing Len Ha cave as a place to station troops. Len Ha cave belongs to Ha village, Thanh Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province, a border commune bordering Laos. The cave is located halfway up the limestone mountain to the west of Truong Son Road, with an altitude of 150m, the highest peak is 320m, about 420m wide, about 3km from the strategic route 15A, which is often the key point of the enemy’s attack. .

Len Ha cave was renovated into a place to place radio equipment; The dense forest at the foot of the mountain was camouflaged and built as a guest house, living room for officers and soldiers and the station’s hall. Hang Len Ha can both hide equipment, machinery and lines of Regiment 134, regularly reserve 700 km of field shielded lines, ready to replace the bare North-South axis line in this case. attacked by the enemy, paralyzed.

The base station A69 is an important part of the information lifeline, the first place to receive orders and directives from the Ministry of National Defense and the Central Committee from Hanoi to the southern battlefield. Detecting the operation of the A69 base station and the important position of Len Ha cave, the enemy often focused on fierce attacks.

On a hot summer day, July 2, 1972, while officers and soldiers of Base Station A69 were on duty, American planes suddenly attacked and fired smoke cannons at the station’s cafeteria. Right after that were 3 B52 bombs and a series of luminescent bombs, incendiary bombs. In just 5 minutes, the shack at the foot of the camp was on fire.

The losses of Station A69 after this raid were very heavy: the station on the high rock cave was badly damaged, the cable network connecting the station and about 1,500 m of the transmission line around the station area was broken and could not be contacted; 13 heroic soldiers died (including 3 male soldiers, 10 female soldiers). Most of the martyrs had their hometowns in the northern provinces, including six martyrs from Phu Tho province. All the brothers and sisters died when they were in their eighteenth or early 20s and still unmarried.

A large area of ​​the station was bombarded by enemy bombs, causing a lot of pain and damage to the base station A69. But with the spirit of all for the mission of ensuring communication, the surviving warriors wiped away tears, suppressed their pain to continue on the mission and after only 1 hour, contact information was restored. smoothly restored, the base station was reinforced to continue serving the battlefield. At the same time, the comrades also took care of the wounded soldiers, found the bodies and buried their 13 comrades.

Not only bombarding, the enemy also used all means to destroy our communication lines, but all failed. Especially in May 1972, with high vigilance, officers and soldiers of base station A69 discovered that the enemy had installed two eavesdroppers on the North-South axis communication line (in the Khe area). Grinding). The unit promptly recovered, reported to superiors and adjusted some information segments and routes to avoid enemy sabotage.

During the process of fighting and serving in the fight against the destructive war of the US imperialists, supporting the battlefields, despite the enemy’s rain, bombs and bullets, not afraid of hardships and sacrifices, as well as the harsh climate. In the harshness of the Truong Son mountains, the officers and soldiers of Station Co Service A69 were resilient, brave, clever and creative to overcome difficulties, hardships and sacrifices to relay hundreds of thousands of timely communication sessions, precisely, secretly creating a smooth information network from the rear to the front; especially from Operation Headquarters to combat units.

After the peace and reunification of the country at a place that was soaked with blood, sweat and tears of officers and soldiers of Base Station A69, in September 2005, a memorial was built and engraved. names of 13 heroes and martyrs who died on July 2, 1972. A temple at the foot of Len Ha mountain (the old bomb crater) was also built for later generations to respectfully express their gratitude to the soldiers who gave their youth to protect the blood vessels of communication. transparently and promptly, contributing to the liberation of the South and reunification of the Fatherland.

On May 7, 2009, Len Ha Cave was ranked as a national historical relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The soldiers who sacrificed themselves were conferred the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces by the President. In particular, in 2017, the People’s Committee of Quang Binh province approved the detailed construction planning of the relic site with an area of ​​​​over 12 hectares, including many work items that recreate the life and working conditions of information army soldiers. , becoming a destination known to many people as a heroic testimony of the dedication and sacrifices of information soldiers.

On September 16, 2018 the incense offering house at Len Ha National Historic Site was officially inaugurated and put into use. This is a work of cultural and spiritual significance, a place for compatriots, soldiers across the country, and international tourists to offer incense and pay tribute to martyrs, thereby educating revolutionary traditions for the world. system today and in the future.
