Visit Na Hau Nature Reserve

 

Na Hau Nature Reserve  of Van Yen district is known for preserving a rich and diverse flora and fauna ecosystem.

From the center of Mau A town, Van Yen district, cross the Mau A bridge across the Red River along the route from An Thinh commune to Dai Son commune about 30 km to the southwest, crossing Ba Khuy slope across the mountainside, tourists will go to Na Hau commune – a commune where 100% of the Mong people live.

 

Located in the core zone, the Conservation Area belongs to 4 communes: Dai Son, Mo Vang, Na Hau, Phong Du Thuong with an area of ​​over 16,000 hectares – Ta and Na Hau commune have topography like a basin made of a narrow valley. Surrounded by primeval forests. The forest in  Na Hau Nature Reserve  still retains a biodiversity ecosystem with hundreds of rare species of plants and animals.

 

In  this Na Hau Nature Reserve  , the evergreen broadleaf forest system is relatively intact, with many creeks, streams, and waterfalls flowing all year round. The forest structure has not been broken, the canopy layer is clearly divided: The highest layer is the discontinuously protruding large tree, mainly species such as brown elm, doi, filling…; the middle layer is the ecological dominant layer, the canopy of forest trees is continuously nearly equal in height, belonging to evergreen tree species such as shampoo, de, chestnut…; the lower layer is divided into many different layers of high and low, mainly small trees that like shade; The fresh carpet layer is mainly shrubs, ferns, forest areca…; Currently, the natural forest still has more than 30 different species of plants, including rare wood species such as flower slices, po mu… growing mainly at an altitude of 700m or more.

 

The fauna in the reserve is quite rich and many rare species are still preserved and preserved. Currently, the forest has about 72 species of mammals, 240 species of birds, 48 ​​species of reptiles…, of which there are many valuable species listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the World Red List such as chamois, bears, black gibbons, etc. gray langur, big-headed turtle, flower lizard. In addition, the forest area in the core zone of the Nature Reserve is also home to a number of bird species with a narrow distribution, including some globally threatened bird species such as hornbill, pheasant…

 

Bringing in the wild and mysterious beauty, Suoi Tien waterfall is hidden in the primeval forest of village 2 (Khe Tat). On the journey to the waterfall, visitors have to pass large rocks and ancient forests. Suoi Tien Waterfall is quite long and has 3 floors, each floor has a relatively high height. The cool, blue water comes down from the top of the mountain, sending white foam all year round.

 

Besides, when coming to explore Na Hau Nature Reserve, visitors can also immerse themselves in Suoi Tien waterfall hidden in the primeval forest of village 2 (Ke Tat). On the journey to the waterfall, visitors have to pass large rocks and ancient forests. 

Suoi Tien Waterfall is quite long and has 3 floors, each floor has a relatively high height. The cool, blue water comes down from the top of the mountain, sending white foam all year round. On summer days, Suoi Tien waterfall always attracts a lot of tourists who come here to be immersed in the cool, clear water and feel the melodious melodies played from the sound of the waterfall, the mountain wind and the song. of all kinds of birds in a peaceful space. 

 

Coming to Na Hau, visitors will be immersed in the forest New Year festival, the flute dance, the money stick dance of the Mong people; enjoy the rustic dishes imbued with national identity prepared by the skillful hands of the simple and hospitable Mong people.

One of the famous specialties in  Yen Bai  ‘s cuisine is the “stealing armpit” pork dish. When processing, the pigs are cleaned, marinated with spices picked from the forest and then grilled whole, or boiled and then cut the bones. This pork dish, sipping with Na Hau corn wine, will make it difficult for visitors to forget the typical flavor of the mountains.

 

 

Another famous culinary specialty of Na Hau that any visitor to this place cannot ignore is the local black chicken dish. Na Hau black chicken is a rare breed of chicken with black skin, meat and bones. Dishes made from Na Hau black chicken such as boiled, ginger soup, roasted ginger, charcoal grilled, grilled tubers, sour bamboo shoots… will satisfy even the most fastidious diners.

Currently, there is a road from the center of Van Yen district to  Na Hau Nature Reserve . On the journey to the reserve, visitors can stop and visit the cinnamon forests in Dai Son commune. Van Yen cinnamon has the second highest essential oil content after Tra My cinnamon in Quang Nam. On average, each year, the cinnamon area in Van Yen is newly planted by thousands of hectares, bringing the cinnamon area of ​​the whole district to over 15,000 hectares. Cinnamon is a very large source of income in the household economy of the Dao people in Van Yen district, but has not been significantly exploited for the purpose of ecotourism associated with the cultural identities of the Dao people.
