Bach Thong was a heroic land where the There were many resilient and heroic battles of our army and people in the resistance war against the invading French colonialists, such as the battle of Phu Thong. After 65 years, the battle of Phu Thong garrison is still an indelible mark in the heroic history of the Vietnamese people’s army in particular and the Vietnamese people in general.

In order to defeat the plan of occupation and pacification of the French colonialists, our army set the goal of opening a big battle on Fort Phu Thong. At 17:30 on July 25, 1948, the battle began. Our artillery and mortars bombarded the fort, killing some enemies and breaking some walls. After the first few minutes of confusion, the enemy regained their defensive posture, fought back fiercely, concentrated machine gun fire and mortar fire to prevent the units from coming in, some comrades died or were injured. But the former fell, the latter rushed forward, resolutely attacking. We captured the bridgehead bunker, the enemy casualties fled back inside.

It is known that General Vo Nguyen Giap assessed: “The victory at Phu Thong was the first battle of our troops to destroy the French elite fortified company with solid fortifications. The victory brought confidence and experience, and made great contributions to our troops advancing on the road of siege, especially in the Border Liberation campaign and in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, in general in all 30 years. year of resistance”.

On March 27, 1998, Phu Thong Fort was classified as a historical relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information. On June 1, 1999, the people and people’s armed forces of Phu Thong town were honored to be conferred the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces by the Party and State.
