Location: located on the national highway 3 sections from Bac Kan to Cao Bang (bordering between Bach Thong and Ngan Son districts of Bac Kan province), 24km north of Bac Kan town.
Features: is the place where the ambush and fierce fighting of the Capital Regiment destroyed the entire French motor vehicle convoy.
One of the most glorious events in the Giang pass was the battle at km 187 – 188 of the Giang pass on 12/12/1947. On that day, our troops attacked the enemy’s motorized convoy including 22 tanks, armored vehicles, trucks and jeeps carrying soldiers that entered the ambush field of Regiment 165 (Capital regiment).
The ambush battlefield that our army and people chose was a dangerous road, one side was a high cliff and the other side was a deep abyss, so the enemy was in a completely passive position. And right from the first series of attacks, our troops made the enemy confused and unable to react.
As a result, our army destroyed 60 enemies, burned 17 motor vehicles and obtained 2 million Indochina Dong and many other weapons and military equipment. Through this battle, it helped our army to gain experience in battalion-level ambush tactics for ambush battles against the enemy during the period of resistance against the French.
After this victory, Giang pass has become a place associated with the feats of our army and people in the Vietnam Bac Autumn – Winter campaign in 1947. Giang pass has become a pride of the Vietnamese people’s army. in general and Bac Can army and people in particular.
