About Hung Yen Mau Temple 

Mausoleum Hung Yen  , also known as Hoa Duong Linh Tu, belongs to Quang Trung ward, Hung Yen city. From Hanoi capital, moving to Mau Temple only goes about 60-64km. According to this distance, visitors can use cars or motorbikes to visit the Temple during the day.

Mother Temple  is the place to worship Duong Quy Phi, the last empress of the Song dynasty of China. This is considered a rare feature in ancient Vietnamese temples, showing the solidarity of the two peoples of Vietnam and China. According to historical records,  the Hung Yen Mau Temple  was built in 1278, at first there was only one room to worship Duong Quy Phi. The Mau Temple was built on the “crouching dragon” position in harmony with the scene of a semi-circular lake on the Red River dike creating a peaceful and peaceful “Son Dieu Thuy” stance.

Legend has it that according to the story of Ngoc Pha – the wife of King Tong De Binh. In 1279, when the Yuan army invaded the Song state, the emperor and his royal family got off the boat and fled to the south. On the way to escape, they were captured by Truong Hoang Pham, a general of the Nguyen Dynasty. Experiencing the interrogation process, the king and his concubines did not submit, so they jumped into the sea to commit suicide. After that, Ms. Duong Quy Phi’s body washed up on the sand and people buried and built a temple.

Hung Yen Mau Temple  is located on an area of ​​about 3000m2. Although it has undergone many renovations, coming to this temple, visitors can still feel the long-standing antiquity left on each tile roof, wall or statue. At present, in the Mau Temple, many cultural artifacts of high value are still kept such as: Phung Kieu, 2 palanquins of a long family, a long Kieu, 2 vases of a vase, 2 sets of buu bowls, 2 large incense bowls, etc. many diaphragms, couplets, great characters, and religious orders.

Architecture of Hung Yen Mau Temple 

The architecture of Hung Yen Mau Temple  consists of many layers. The ritual part of the Temple is built quite beautifully according to the architecture of two floors and eight roofs, the arched door includes two side doors and one main door. On the dome, there is a great letter made of blue ceramic pieces with the words: “Duong Thien Hau – Tong Trieu”.

Through the courtyard of the Temple, you will come to a 2-room sacrifice hall with 2-storey architecture with 8 roofs, a flexible curved roof in the style of dragon adoration, roof tiles with dragon scales. In the main hall, there is a double dragon adoring the moon bearing the imprint of Vietnamese architecture. The two sides of the great worship are Quang Han Palace and Luu Ly Palace. According to the story, in the center of Tien Sa Temple of the Mother Temple, there is a golden scribe written in 1896 by Dr. Chu Manh Trinh. This inscription praises the beauty of the Temple and the virginal heart of the Holy Mother. Also at the Tien Te pavilion is placed a palanquin with bowls of tribute imprinted with the sculptures of the Later Le period. Most of the lines on the palanquin are carved very delicately and meticulously.

Passing the Tien Te court, you will come to the harem, where there is a statue of Duong Quy Phi with a kind face, besides there are two servants, Lieu Thi and Kim Thi. All worshiping statues are painted with gold gilding. The altar room under the dim light of candlelight, glimmering a bit of incense smoke, brings a quiet and sacred atmosphere for visitors to come and worship.

The sacred beauty at Hung Yen Mau Temple 

Stepping through the gate of  Mau Temple in Hung Yen , visitors come to visit as if entering the space of Buddha – Saint with peaceful scenery, chirping birds and faint incense smoke. Right in front of the Temple courtyard, there are three ancient tree trunks shading luxuriantly, adding a solemn, quiet and sacred look to the temple. It is known that 3 trunks of the tree existed about 800 years ago, growing on top of each other. Scientists said that there are many ancient trees in the North, but as rare and unique as at Mau Temple in Hung Yen, they have not been discovered anywhere else. The roots here grow to form an extremely stable three-legged tripod, just like Mother’s hand is always outstretched to hug her children back.

Mau Temple Festival in Hung Yen 

Every year,  the Hung Yen Mau Temple Festival  takes place from the 10th to the 15th day of the third lunar month. This is a traditional festival that attracts a large number of locals and tourists from far and wide to attend, worship and pray for happiness and good things.
