In general, Da Nguu communal house has the shape of the word “Si”, consisting of two main buildings, the front and the harem. The word “Si” interprets to mean “student and intellectual”. The old folk often called it “the hundred-column communal house”, because the communal house had 100 wooden pillars. Before building the communal house, the workers near and far shook their heads because they could not build such a large communal house. It is required to design a communal house consisting of two stable and balanced buildings with enough columns of 101, but the beams must all use mortise, not nails.
