Located at the foot of the majestic limestone mountains, hidden under the great thousand at an altitude of more than 1,000m above sea level, the National Historic Site of Muong Tinh Cave (Anti village, Sa Dung commune, Dien Bien Dong district, Dien Bien province) is a place associated with the process of formation and development of the first Party cell of Dien Bien district (former), Lai Chau Provincial People’s Committee (former) and the revolutionary movement in the area.

Muong Tinh Cave is also an attractive tourist destination with a fresh climate and beautiful natural scenery. However, due to insufficient investment attention, the tourism potential of this relic is being left open.

The revolutionary base holds great historical value

Responding to President Ho Chi Minh’s call for the nationwide resistance (the night of December 19, 1946), to energize the Northwestern front, in early 1947, the National Army Command continued to send a number of units. troops to the Northwest.

In November 1947, the Central Committee of the Party opened an enlarged conference to review the situation in all aspects after a year of resistance, outline the revolutionary tasks of the new period and issue a resolution on regional work behind the enemy’s back; advocated for the two provinces of Son La-Lai Chau to establish the Son-Lai inter-provincial administrative resistance committee.

On February 29, 1948, the Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People’s Army ordered the establishment of the Northwest Volunteers Committee in order to widen a road to Dien Bien Phu and open the front in the enemy’s heart in Lai Chau.

To carry out this order, Inter-zone 10 gathered troops and political cadres who were local to build independent companies, armed squads propagated to put the enemy’s rear to operate, and established bases in the rear area. enemy’s back.

On that basis, 4 teams were established, of which the Quyet Tien Volunteer Team (established on March 15, 1948) built a base in area A (Nghia Lo, Than Uyen, Van Ban… (Yen Bai) ). , development direction to Dien Bien Phu.

Teams have the task of going deep into the enemy’s rear, building revolutionary bases, mass bases, developing guerrilla warfare, connecting solid resistance bases in the enemy’s heart, and expanding the free zone. by the Union.

After more than a year of crossing the mountains and forests, experiencing many difficulties and hardships, in May 1949, the Quyet Tien Volunteer Team crossed the Da River and entered Tuan Giao (former Lai Chau).

Here, taking Pu Nhung commune as the base, Quyet Tien Volunteer Team continues to expand its operation area, the main direction is to develop in the remote highlands, where many Hmong people live, and then move down to the lowlands. to build and develop the revolutionary base. The team was determined to build Tuan Giao into a solid springboard to form a development path to Dien Bien Phu (former Lai Chau) and Northern Laos.

In July 1949, the Quyet Tien volunteer team moved its forces to the highlands of Dien Bien to operate. Sa Dung commune (now in Dien Bien Dong district, Dien Bien province) was the first location of the team. In this highland, the team established the Dien Bien district cadres committee and 6 inter-commune administrative resistance committees with new revolutionary names, of which Sa Dung commune was named Quang Trung. Each commune has a guerrilla team of 10-12 people armed with flintlock guns.

After two years of operation in Lai Chau, Quyet Tien Volunteer Team has built a series of facilities extending from Quynh Nhai district (Son La) through Tuan Giao to Dien Bien (former Lai Chau) and to Northern Laos. The facilities that the Team has built in an area of ​​more than 3,000km2 with about 1,300 households.

In 1950, at Muong Tinh cave, important historical events took place: the first Party cell of Dien Bien district (former) was established (July 1950); The Party Committee of Lai Chau province moved its agency to live in Muong Tinh cave (September 1950) in the protection and absolute safety of the local people.

During this period, Muong Tinh cave was the place where important meetings took place, where documents, weapons, and food were hidden. guerrilla warfare as well as the first general offensive to liberate Dien Bien in 1953.

In November 1950, at the base of Muong Tinh cave, a local army platoon was established. Also here, in February 1952, Dien Bien district army was established with the core of Sa Dung commune guerrilla team, standing side by side with the main army, fighting resiliently, contributing to the historic Dien Bien Phu victory “The splendor of the five continents, shaking the earth.”

Tourism potential is still open

After 65 years of Dien Bien Phu victory (1954), Muong Tinh cave (recognized as a national monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on April 14, 2011) remains in its original state by tectonics, accretion over millions of years.

To reach Muong Tinh cave, from Sa Dung Commune People’s Committee, visitors travel about 5km on dirt road to reach Muong Tinh A village (one of 19 villages of Sa Dung commune). From the gate of the village, following the turn uphill, which is mixed with stone and concrete, which is wide enough for 2 people to walk, about 800m long, visitors will reach the area of ​​Muong Tinh cave.

The stalactites in the cave have many beautiful and pristine shapes

Before reaching the entrance of the cave, visitors have to go through the cliffs, follow the dense path under the old trees and countless forest trees and vines.

Muong Tinh cave has 3 main compartments, when going through the narrow cave entrance, you will go down to the first compartment with an area of ​​​​about 600m2, about 20m high. Although the dome of the cave does not have many rich shapes, the space is quite large, the ground is flat, the climate is cool, sometimes water drops in the cave make an impressive sound.

The second compartment has a narrow space with an area of ​​​​more than 20m2, connected to the first compartment by a tunnel through natural stone. Here, on the walls are small and large stone niches.

In addition to the large, fairly flat stone slabs, visitors can easily encounter rocks and stalactites shaped like animals. The second compartment also has a small path through to the top of the mountain. The most beautiful is the third compartment about 30m2 wide with the appearance of many stalactites with iridescent colors and eye-catching stone-covered curtains, creating associations for visitors.

In any season of the year, when coming to Muong Tinh cave, visitors can enjoy the fresh air, immerse themselves in the cultural space and daily life of the Mong community in Anti and Muong Tinh villages. Ah…

Over the years, local people have always had a sense of protecting and preserving the cave, organizing extracurricular activities at the cave to educate students on national pride, patriotism, and traditions of their ancestors.

In order for this relic to attract tourists, the commune authorities faced many difficulties due to the lack of funds to invest, upgrade the roads to the relic as well as create routes and links with other relic sites in the area. in the area.

Mr. Lau Chu Sinh, Secretary of the Party Committee of Sa Dung commune, Dien Bien Dong district, Dien Bien province said that the biggest difficulty to “awaken” the tourism potential of this relic is the lack of and weak infrastructure system. . The road to the monument is too difficult for vehicles, especially in the rainy season, frequent erosion, landslides, slippery, no lighting system in the cave.

In the wide cave, with a height of 20m

The local government wants Dien Bien province, the province’s tourism industry to pay attention and soon invest, renovate and upgrade the road and electricity system to the monument.
