Tu Lan cave system is located 70km from Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, next to Tan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province; Deeply hidden among the grasslands, cornfields, and green peanuts are followed by a long stretch of Rao Nan River.

To explore the Tu Lan cave system, visitors will pass through the majestic landscapes here; cross the grasslands, green valleys; dense tropical forests, conquer steep mountain slopes or swim through underground rivers.

Tu Lan cave system consists of more than 10 caves in all, some of which were originally discovered and explored in 1992, and some were found only in the past few years.

Ton Cave, first discovered in 1992 and then further studied in 2012, is the first cave that appeared in the exploration of this complex cave system.

 

From the dry entrance of Ton Cave, visitors can see stunning views of the valley below, and promise more adventures inside. An inner ladder leads down to the cave floor, and from there the real journey begins, where visitors must swim through the cave to reach the exit on the other side.

With unspoiled beauty, Tu Lan cave system was once chosen as the backdrop for the Hollywood blockbuster  “Kong: Skull Island”  (2017). Logically, setting up the studio in Tu Lan is quite difficult; but that is one of the advantages to create epic scenes here.

Tu Lan was chosen as the filming set for the plane scene with the characters played by Samuel L Jackson and John Goodman; These two characters wait at the riverbank before King Kong appears.

In addition, recently, a few other caves including Hung Ton Cave, Mouse Cave or some grasslands, cornfields, Rao Nan river banks.. have been used in the Vietnamese movie  “The Immortal Man”. “  by director Victor Vu.

“The Immortal”  is considered a mystery, horror film more than a love story. The film was released in 2018 and resonated greatly with the domestic and international audience for the scenes in and specifically the Tu Lan cave system.
