The owner of an old house made from jackfruit wood in Hung Yen is Mr. Chu Van Binh, who has a special love for traditional ancient architecture. With all his passion, he recreated and sketched an ancient house in the northern countryside.
The mansion was started in 2009 including the main house and the house with the main material being jackfruit wood. The total cost of Mr. Binh’s investment and construction of the house is up to 1.5 billion VND.
In which, 690 million VND is money for jackfruit wood to build a house, 380 million VND is money for mahogany to design the altar, not to mention the cost of buying rosewood, agarwood, and agarwood to make utensils and essential items.
“I had to work hard, and go back and forth for years to find wood, find builders to build houses. Finding a worker is difficult, finding wood is twice as difficult. Because the entire pillar to build the house must be big wood, it is rare to find a jackfruit tree that is both big and straight “- Mr. Binh shared.
Only the amount of jackfruit wood for his main house has reached 35 blocks. That year, the owner of the old house had to work hard to get the design from the top woodworkers from Thach That (Hanoi).
The wood making period lasted for 1 year and the house was built in exactly 26 days.
“In that day, I had to ask 20 of the most handsome and healthy young men in the village to build a house for me. The big and heavy wooden blocks make the porters tired, even thinking about it now, it takes a lot of sweat and energy to make this house “- the owner of the house recalls.
The mansion was built in the traditional style of the Northern countryside with exquisite architecture.
The main house consists of 3 compartments and 2 wings, one in the middle is the main room for worship, the other two on the side are used as a place to receive guests, tea ceremony and temporary resting place.
Two wings are 2 bedrooms at the top of the house for family members. Next to the main house is the children’s house, including a kitchen, a drinking table, and a collective living area.
According to the owner’s explanation, an old house must have a horizontal house (main house) and a succession of children’s houses, rhyming with each other, the new space will fit and be peaceful.
The old house was built in the northeast direction, including 5 degrees North and 85 degrees East. A small space in front of the door is used as a porch to help cover the rain and sun.
The courtyard is spaciously designed with many trees covered to cool off the sweltering heat of summer days. Thanks to that, guests only need to step into the courtyard to feel the fresh and fresh atmosphere thanks to the green lungs that filter the air in the heart of the mansion.
The entire wall surrounding the house is carefully built to harmonize with feng shui. Mr. Binh had to pick up workers from Nam Dinh to build the wall, all the details on the wall were carved delicately and precisely in every line. Each shape is a masterpiece of art, a deep meaning that the owner of the house wants to convey and keep.
In addition to the unique architecture, the old house in Hung Yen is loved by everyone because all the furniture in the house is carefully selected by the owner of the mansion, in harmony with the space.
The entire altar including the diaphragm, the couplets, the hammock door – the afternoon, the scroll… are all made from rare species of mahogany.
In particular, the set of couplets is written in Confucian script, sketched by the Vietnamese teacher himself and inlaid with genuine tau gold. In particular, the hammock door – dimension is carved on both sides, the inside and outside are the same to create a rare luxury and class.
The center of the large space is the old pictures and couplets collected by the owner of the mansion from all over the country.
In the main room of the house, Mr. Binh put an antique French clock with 10 tapers to signal the time. The sound of an antique clock blends with the sounds of the countryside to create a perfect instrumental music.
“Every night when I lie down and listen to the ticking of the clock, I feel strangely peaceful and relaxed. It seems that all the hustle, bustle, and haste in the suburbs stops behind the door. Over time, it has become familiar, the sound of the lake has become an indispensable friend and companion in the family “- Mr. Binh confided.
For Mr. Binh, the old house is not only a place to live, but also a lifelong masterpiece of Vietnamese people, bringing with them the longing and nostalgia of the old values.
