MULTIFUNCTION – RIVER RIVER OF MYTH AND POTENTIAL CULTURE – TOURISM

Da Do is the name of a poetic and legendary river, which hides a lot of potential for irrigation and tourism of the port city of Hai Phong. The Da Do River receives water from the Van Uc River in Cau Thuong village, Quang Hung commune (An Lao district) into the Van Uc river in Tan Trao commune (Kien Thuy district), 48km long. The river resembles the shape of a water dragon, winding in the shape of a pocket like that of dragons on stone steles, traditional architectures of the Ly Dynasty (1010-1226), flowing through Bat Trang, Quang Hung, and An Tien communes. , Quoc Tuan, Tan Dan, Tan Vien, Thai Son, Dong Phuong, Tan Phong, Ngu Doan, Thanh Son, Doan Xa, Tan Trao….

Da Do River is also known as Cau Thuong River. The book “Dai Nam Nhat Thong Chi” commented on the Cau Thuong River as follows: “The hidden water is called the Cuu Bieu River; splits and flows south through Cam La commune, Nghi Duong district, to Co Trai divided into two branches; one branch flows south into Da Ngu river all the way to the mouth of Australia, one branch flows to the southeast to Throat wharf, there is a creek from Do Son commune flowing in, all the way to Rieng estuary…”. Da Do River is a tributary of the Van Uc River (the ancient name is Uat Giang), formerly very large, has changed its stream many times, moved gates, sometimes it empties into the Bang La Sea, when it empties into the mouth of the Co Trai River, and then the Van Uc River as it is now. In the past, Da Do river was much larger, its flow meandered like a bunch of 9 gourds, so it was called Cuu Bieu Giang. When the ancient sea was gradually filled, the mouth of Eagle was accreted, Da Do River’s water could not be drained in time to follow the way of Sang River, so it changed its current, changed its flow into the Van Uc River as it is now. The immense lakes and ponds in Kien Thuy district such as La lagoon (Ky Son), Cua Phu lagoon (Thuan Thien, Thuy Huong), Cho Xa lagoon (Dai Hop), Cua Don lagoon (Doan Xa)… are vestiges of the lake. of the ancient Da Do River.

The book “Giao Chau Thuy Luc Ky” is said to have been written by the Ming Dynasty general Truong Phu and mentioned the waterway through the gates of Dai Bang, Da Ngu, and Co Trai to Thang Long. Perhaps, Da Do River is the center of this transportation system.

Before the twentieth century, when Tac Giang dam was not built, Cai Rieng, Cai He sluices were built, Da Do river was indeed a wonderful waterway, contributing to pulling Hai Phong estuary closer to the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, connecting Duong Kinh (the capital of the sea) and Dong Kinh (the land of thousands of years of culture). At that time, the Da Do River was bustling with ships and goods, crowded with people and prosperous. The river banks gradually formed many large manors and estates such as: the estate of General Tran Quoc Thi in Lang Con; of Vu Hai in Du Le; of Princess Quynh Tran in Mo, May; of Queen Mother Vu Thi Ngoc Toan in Thuan Thien, Huu Bang; of Princess Chieu Trinh in Kha Lam, Dau Son … vestiges of busy commercial activities in the past, now only the shadow of some ancient architectural works can be found. These are the relics of Lang Con, Dai Tra, Vong Hai, Phuc Hai, Hoa Lieu, Van Hoa,

Da Do River has beautiful water bodies, clear blue water. Explaining the reason why the water of the Da Do River has a magical green color, there are many theories in folklore. In it, there is a theory that, in the past in this area, there was a beautiful village girl who was loved and married by a prince. When the prince ascended the throne, she became a noble concubine, always near the king. But after she had no children, she asked the king to let her return to her hometown. The king gave her a lot of wealth and treasures, but she didn’t accept it, just asked the king for a strip of wasteland along the coast of her hometown. The king consented. She and the king returned to their old hometown, the old village, to visit the place where the two met and formed a predestined relationship. She said to the king: I would like to spread this strip of blue bib, wherever the wind blows, please accept the land. The queen’s heavenly blue bib flew over Tien Cam village (An Lao) to Ky Son village (Kien Thuy).

Another legend has it that the water of the Da Do River is the tears of the queen that fell when she remembered the king.

There is also a legend that when the Mac took the throne, mobilized the people to expand the river bed, the tears of the translators who were subjected to hard labor turned into the dark blue Da Do river water, flowing forever.

At present, Da Do River has a beautiful natural landscape, like a charming and lively water picture, taking on the role of regulating agricultural water, serving fish farming, and irrigating fields. But the Da Do line also contains a lot of potential for tourism, an inspiration for writers and artists of many types of art such as poetry, literature, fine art…

Developing eco-tourism and entertainment is the most effective way in exploiting the potential of Da Do River. Along the river, it is possible to build motels, hotels, swimming pools, sports facilities, form villages, and grow fruit gardens. Under the river can organize boat racing, windsurfing, cultural boat tours along the river… Especially, these two riverbanks still have many beautiful ancient art and architecture works, many cultural villages with special customs. good, beautiful custom. In the future, at the foot of the mountain, an art museum of the Mac Dynasty will be formed in Hai Phong, to introduce visitors to a time of economic, commercial, handicraft and cultural development. Port city, of the country.

Da Do – a poetic river, imbued with history, culture and potential tourism economic value is waiting for the hands and wisdom of people to explore to enrich the country’s homeland.
